NIP Tax Credits Are Back! -- Tuesday September 1st, 2020

Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) tax credits are back!

Any minimum donation of $500 from a West Virginia resident will receive a voucher equal to half (50%) of the donation amount to use when you file your taxes!

Your donation will support low-income spay/neuter efforts in Randolph County and our Compassion in Action program, which provides emergency services to families who need it. Those services include straw during freezing temperatures, pet food and supplies, and many other things in order to keep pets and their families together.

Donations cannot be combined - they must be in lump sums of a minimum of $500. Your tax credit voucher will be sent to you for use on your current year's taxes.

This is a win-win for you and RCHS!

Yelp for Help! 18 Cats/Kittens -- Friday June 5th, 2020

Yelp for Help! 18 Cats/Kittens Need Your Help!

Today we took possession of 18+ cats/kittens that were living in unhealthy conditions. We are in need of cat food, especially canned, and kitty litter, as well as donations to support vet expenses.

We won’t be putting them in foster care or adopting them right now, but as always, when/if they become available, they’ll be posted on our website.

Right now we just need your support with supplies, donations, and good vibes for these little ones.

We’re still practicing social distancing, so if you bring supplies, feel free to drop them on the bench by the door and we’ll bring them in.

If you want to donate funds:

1) Click the Donate button on our Facebook post or

2) Send a donation to RCHS, PO Box 785, Elkins WV 26241.

As always thank you, thank you, thank you!

City of Elkins Grants $5,000 to RCHS for TNVR Program -- Friday November 8th, 2019

City of Elkins Grants $5,000 to RCHS for TNVR Program

The City of Elkins presented the Randolph County Humane Society with a check for $5,000 for its Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return (TNVR) program.

RCHS Shelter Manager Kelly Scheidegger and RCHS Board President Tina Vial accepted the check from Mayor Van Broughton today. Check out the full press release below for details. We're so excited about this! Thank you, City of Elkins!

Randolph County Humane Society and City of Elkins Joint Press Release

November 8, 2019
RE: Funding for TNVR program
For immediate release:

The City of Elkins presented the Randolph County Humane Society with a check for $5,000 for its Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return (TNVR) program. The program focuses on sterilizing and vaccinating community cats not owned by anyone.

This proven approach curbs reproduction, vaccinates against diseases, and reduces nuisance behaviors such as roaming, vocalizing, and property destruction exhibited by unsterilized cats.

In 2019 to date, RCHS has sterilized 32 cats within the city limits. This proposal will allow RCHS to TNVR approximately 65 more. Those cats will be identified through strategic analysis of the current waiting list and from data gathered through the shelter’s geo-tracking of existing colonies in order to result in the greatest impact on the population.

This effort is a demonstration of the City’s commitment to being a Humane City, a partnership agreed to in 2016 between the City and RCHS.

If you have questions about the program, please contact Shelter Manager Kelly Scheidegger at 304-636-7844.

RCHS Dedicates Earle Building -- Wednesday August 28th, 2019

RCHS Dedicates Earle Building

RCHS is proud to announce the dedication of The RCHS Earle Building!

This new addition to our facilities will allow potential adopters an opportunity to meet and interact with animals they are considering adopting in a more home-like setting rather than through a kennel door.

They'll be able to more easily visualize that animal in their own living room and be more likely to make that life-changing decision to adopt.

Thanks to Dick Earle, who remembered us in his will; this will be his legacy!

Check out the article and video from WBOY-TV 12 News  to learn more!
